Marek Pasieczny GO-DAI

“ (…) The Go-Dai Concerto is not only a triumph for the guitar technically; it marks a turning point in the instrument’s repertoire for the concerto medium. For many commentators the guitar’s relationship with ensemble has always had great potential, but few examples have come to the fore to define the instrument in this way.
Pasieczny has shown here not only what level of musical interaction is possible with orchestra, but also how the guitar might come to redefine the orchestral palette for a new crop of composers. I am certain that its significance will lie in its future status as a milestone for the guitar canon.”

Guy TRAVISS March 2013, London (‘CLASSICAL GUITAR MAGAZINE’)

Polish Sketches for DUO MELIS

„The Polish Sketches is a fantastic piece which brings us melodies and rhythms from the Polish folklore through a very imaginative and colourful modern language. Marek Pasieczny is one of the most talented young composers of our time and we feel honoured by this dedication.”

…solo for Ana Vidovic

'Surf lingo’ or 'surfer’s slang’, is the unique jargon of surfers, an unusual vocabulary associated with the world of surfing. In this language, the word 'SPIFFY’ is often used to describe something cool, fun or radical, but also could be used to refer to an attractive woman.

I’ve always been interested in creating new sounds, new techniques, and new ways of combining different musical styles. 'Spiffy is an example of that. There is no limit to defining what is 'good’ or 'serious’ or what 'Music’ is. I consider myself first of all to be someone who loves all music. It was fun to compose this piece and it gives me great pleasure when performing it. I hope that you (as a player or even just as a listener) will find that same kind of joy I experienced in this composition.

I composed this piece in UK (April), premiered during „Sul Tasto Festival” in Paris, France (May) and recorded in Germany (June) 2013. This piece is dedicated to Ana Vidovic.

ROLAND DYENS: „Great experience with Desejo, i’m glad for you. It’s good piece and no doubt Odair will be a great ambassador of it.”
’DESEJO’ in Portuguese means 'wish’, 'desire’, 'pleasure’ or 'longing’ and that’s exactly what this project means to me and how I felt when Odair Assad asked me to compose something for his 'solo’ project. I’m honored to write and dedicate this piece to my musical hero and living legend Odair Assad.

Classical Guitar Review of Little Sonata

Excellent review by Colin Cooper (Classical Guitar Magazin) on Pasieczny’s LITTLE SONATA:

“Most composers are aware of the difficulties in writing good music that is at the same playable by amateurs. They have reached a high executive level on the instrument of their choice, and cannot resist showing it. Mozart was one of them (…) Marek Pasieczny’s LITTLE SONATA is in this category. (…). This young man knows what he is doing and what he is doing is exciting”. COLIN COOPER, Classical Guitar Magazine | April 2012

JOBURG JAM for 1(7) guitar(s)

This is an acoustic version of a remix by NICK BERTKE (better known as POGO) titled JOBURG JAM (the sights and sounds that he filmed around the city of Johannesburg, South Africa).

I tried to imitate all the voices and sounds on ONE classical guitar (creating almost 17 separate layers and later during the editing process added occasional reverb and using the 'reverse note’ effect). This is my tribute to the works by POGO and South Africa, a country with which I have close ties.

“里の秋”の主題による変奏曲

“I think Sato No Aki is the kind of pieces classical guitar of the 21th century strongly needs: expressive, with a huge variety of tones and colours and a big part of it devoted to silence. In my opinion this work is the way today’s music should be actually: modern but poetic still, close to guitar roots but opened to the future.
For all this, I’m truly humbled Marek Pasieczny dedicated it to me”

World Premiere of new work for solo guitar!

After many years of composing highly advanced pieces both technically and musically demanding, I felt the need to write something considerably simpler in form and language. This composition was bent on the idea of creating something not only for professional guitarists, but also for those still studying at secondary school level.

Little Sonata (titled inspired by Paul Hindemith’s “Kleine Sonate” for cello and piano) is an easy four-movement short composition, leaning on the form of the sonata and kept in the tonal post-classical and neo-romantic language. It was inspired by the cycle for solo piano Impromptus Op . 9 by Franz Schubert.

Written entirely on the piano and later ‘adapted’ for the guitar – it explains the highly pianistic chordal structures and harmonies that dictate the structure of the whole work. It was nevertheless composed with simplicity and ease for the guitar in mind.

This work is dedicated to my friend and great guitarists Krzysztof Pełech.

This work is dedicated to Japanese artist, teacher, lecturer and concert organizer Angie Masako Kitagawa.

New work for solo guitar!

“() Marek Pasieczny is still very young, but already one of the most important guitarists-composers-musicians from our time. The Flight of Kikuidataki’ is beautiful! It is a piece full of sound and the guitar must be grateful to you for writing such a piece. Thank you also”, CARLO DOMENICONI – guitarist and composer (Berlin, Germany; May 2011)

“Kikuidataki is the name of the smallest Bird in Japan and the World’s smallest hummingbird of its kind. The native script is “King birds”. Kikuidataki is characterized by its yellow crown crest. I strived to capture and imitate its movements through sonoristic and colouristic effects. In depicting the Japanese impression, the main melody was inspired and based on the Japanese melody “Itsuki no komuriuta” (Lullaby of Itsuki).

This piece is dedicated to my friend and inspirational guide Carlo Domeniconi”. Marek Pasieczny (Pretoria, South Africa; May 2011)

Pasieczny’s STRING QUARTET in HD!

'STRING QUARTET NO.I’ „subtitled  „The Concerto”

1. Moderato Magnifico  2.Vasto Quieto  3. Presto con fuoco

THE WATSON QUARTET: Ian Watson, Alan John, Mary Ward and Christoff Johannes Fourie

This is my first piece for string quartet. I started to write this quartet in 2007, but finally finished it a few weeks ago. It is in an adapted 'small’ concerto form (fugue and cadenzas in 1st movement, impressionistic slow 2nd movement and 'furious’ finale in 3rd movement).

The atmosphere created by the music should pay tribute to some of the great string quartet writing done before me (starts with Haydn and Mozart and ends with Shostakovich, Lutoslawski and Bartok).

Special thanks to Bede Williams for recording and EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to Ian, Alan, Mery and Christoff. I am privileged as a composer to have such good instrumentalists/musicicians at my desposal.

Marek Pasieczny porwał „Wściekłą Polką” (recenzja)

Ludowe polskie melodie zapisane na gitarę i orkiestrę symfoniczną? Oj, tak! Marek Pasieczny swoim „Concerto polacco” uwiódł publiczność VI Lubuskich Spotkań Gitarowych. Sala Filharmonii Zielonogórskiej trzęsła się od braw. Echa „Chodzonego”, to znów religijnej pieśni „Cichy zapada zmrok”. I jeszcze „Za górkę zaszła” od Grójca/Worów, a na finał porywająca sądecka „Wściekła Polka”… A wszystko 30-letni blondyn o długich palcach rozpisał na gitarę (własną), skrzypce, obój, fagot, kotły, harfę i… pstrykanie palcami! Marek Pasieczny![inspic=209,left,,350]

Pasieczny’s music on CDs

[inspic=197,left,,200]Brand new independent recordings of two young Polish guitarists appeared this month with Marek Pasieczny’s music. Michal Daniel Bak „Music Journey”

[inspic=201,left,,200]I think about this album with sentiment. I wrote most compositions several years ago, when I was younger than Michał. So, it somehow resembles a journey “back to the past”, and these juvenile interpretations of Michał are so dear to me. His interpretations are first of all full of expression and strengthened by his virtuosity. The mastery of the instrument and an interest in jazz music resulted in this very choice of repertoire presented on the debut disc. Michał feels confident in clear forms of sonata, variation or partita. The above mentioned interest in jazz proved to be invaluable in impressionistic variations, a jazz sonata or partita with numerous alterations. The performance, bursting with energy, but also showing a deep respect for all the compositions, is the source of joy for every artist! Great job, Michał! Marek Pasieczny

[inspic=203,left,,150]Jakub Kosciuszko „Here Comes The Silent Dusk. Music of Marek Pasieczny”

[inspic=196,left,,200]”Music is a record of time, and this CD is a perfect example of this. The three compositions recorded on this album represent my works for solo guitar in significant ways. One can divide this repertoire into three phases – early, middle (guitar studies) and the last one – academic (composition studies).  A great respect towards the musical material and intellectually exquisite approach to new music makes Jakub a great partner in a composer-performer relationship. He can be characterized by his extraordinary maturity which reveals itself in treating each composition in a very focused way. Technical control of the instrument is not obscuring the music, on the contrary – it gives it a natural, full rein to deep musical cogitations.  I hope that this debut album (for me ‘retrospective’ and ‘regulative’) will be an important and appreciated step in the guitarists` musical career.
